Helen Pritchard
Helen Pritchard is an artist and researcher in the field of digital innovation. Central to her work are ideas of co-research, co-production and co-operation. Her work often takes the form of structures for structures, instructions, recipes, scores and softwares. Exploring how scores & software might be used as a collaboration tool and her work draws on, Performance Art movements such as Fluxus, Software Studies and Open Source methods for soft and hardware. She is interested in how open innovation through public assembly and co-design has the potential to develop technology to augment and enhance collective human participation in different kinds of activities and to engage diverse groups of people in discussions and further developments of technologies.
Helen has initiated a number of collaborative projects within communities and her most recent work, The Recipe Exchange, commissioned by Spacex, has been developed with residents of a rural community in Devon to explore ideas Open Source Methods, through sharing community know-how. Her work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, and museums internationally, including Writing Machines (HK), East Street Arts (UK), Sonic Peripheries (DE), Transmodern Festival Baltimore, (USA), Teak (Fin), UKS Oslo, (N), RKS Stavanger (N), Spacex (UK), Conical Gallery (Aus), ACA Florida, (USA) and National Review of Live Art (UK). In 2010 was the project curator for Performance Market in collaboration with Plymouth Arts Centre, Marina Abramovic Foundation and Live Art Development Agency.
Helen has also run workshops at Savannah College of Art and Design (Hong Kong Campus), University of the Arts Bremen, Rogaland Art School, Stavanger. Between 2005 – 2010 Helen was an associate lecturer in at Dartington College of Arts (University College Falmouth) and is currently an associate lecturer at Plymouth University.
